Trick shot maestro is star turn at golf club charity event

A rare chance to see the world’s number one golf trick shot maestro in action is being offered to visitors at a charity fundraiser later this month.

David Edwards will be showing off his skills at Basset Down Golf Course near Swindon from 11am until 4pm on Sunday, October 19. The golfer will be entertaining the crowds with an hour of banana shots, teeing off from the clenched teeth of a spectator, and his famous Scissor Hands routine - hitting 310 balls in just three minutes.

It will be his first visit to a Wiltshire club.

The event is being held to mark the relaunch of the club’s 20-bay floodlit driving range, which features state-of-the-art technology from Power Tee that automatically loads up to 100  golf balls from a hopper to the tee.

The Swindon-based company - which sells its technology all over the world - recently confirmed Basset Down as its research and development partner.

Other attractions at the event include an auction, with two chances to bid for a round of golf for four people on The Twenty Ten at Celtic Manor Resort - the course on which the 2010 Ryder Cup was played.

Other lots include a round of golf for four at Bowood Golf Club and at Manor House Golf Club in Castle Combe.

Meanwhile, the top prize in the raffle is a round of golf for four on the Montgomerie course at Celtic Manor, designed and named after Ryder Cup winner Colin Montgomerie.

And golfers will be invited to put their own skills to the test to win prizes: Players will be asked to Finish on a Fiver, or take part in the Long Putt Challenge or Basket Target Competition.

But perhaps the quirkiest challenge is the chance to whack balls at a Ford Ka, in a target competition arranged by motor dealer Pebley Beach, who will be parking the trade-in jalopy on the driving range.

The firm - recently voted Garage of the Year at the AutoExpress Car of the Year Awards – will also be staging free ‘MOT clinics’ throughout the day, where players will be able to improve their golfing skills with the club’s resident professionals, Mike Walters and Ian Bolt.

Basset Down Golf Course was established by fourth generation dairy farmer Will Nutland and his wife Juliette in 2005. The nine-hole, 3,170-yard course is played over 100 acres of mature parkland, and a project to extend the course to 18 holes is underway.

It is located half a mile south of Junction 16 (Wroughton) of the M4.

Attendance at the event - including the demonstration by David Edwards - is free. All proceeds from the auction, raffle and competitions will be donated to Prospect Hospice.

Financial Disclosure

Pebley Beach Limited is an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd, who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Pebley Beach Limited to act as a credit broker, not as a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
